Onfido Appoints Mike Tuchen as New CEO - Identity Review - Identity Review | Global Tech Think Tank

Onfido, an identity verification and authentication provider, will look toward expanding their global offerings with a new leader at its helm. The company announced last week that Mike Tuchen will succeed Husayn Kussai as CEO of the company.

Onfido is looking to scale its technologies globally and have a more robust international digital identity presence. They currently authenticate over 4,500 document types in 195 countries, and also have partnerships with several companies.

Tuchen will lead Onfido into a new period of global expansion, drawing on his extensive experience scaling technology and managing software companies. Prior to this appointment, he was CEO of Talend, a cloud data integration company, and prior to that the CEO of Rapid7, a security software startup. He has also held senior management roles at Microsoft and Polycom.

“I have spent over twenty years working with leading software and tech businesses and I couldn’t be more optimistic about Onfido’s product and mission. This is an incredibly exciting time for the business, with Onfido’s focus on virtual verification more important than ever as companies focus on digitization and the shift to remote working,” Tuchen said.

The Growing Need for Digital Identity

Husayn Kassai co-founded Onfido with Oxford classmates Eamon Jubbawy and Ruhul Amin in 2012. They had a vision to revolutionize the world’s broken digital identity infrastructure, pinpointing digital identity as an individual’s key to unlocking digital services in an increasingly online world.

From an economic standpoint, having full digital ID coverage could help increase GDP 3 to 13 percent. When users have a strong digital presence, with less security threats and fraud, they are able to unlock participation in online services, government, banking and civic and social engagement.

“This is an important moment for Onfido. When I founded the company in 2012 with Eamon and Ruhul, we raised just $20,000 of funding to build the new identity standard for the internet. Eight years on, we’ve achieved so much and I’m proud of the hundreds of Onfidoers who’ve joined our mission to solve the identity problem. We’re in such a strong position and now it’s the right time to hand the torch over to Mike, with all his experience, to lead the company into the future,” Kassai said.
